Have raw-bar for lunch. Will also cook items on raw-bar to order when not on menu. Great place for quick lunch and minutes from airport.
Updated review! If you love seafood, you need to be a regular at Hooked Market & Kitchen. This NYE menu blew me away. Complimentary champagne and lobster bisque to start, hell yeah. The lobster bisque was a perfect tasting to start a celebratory seafood dinner, exploding with lobster flavor. Followed by a dozen of the BEST oysters you can get around here. They use a smaller distributor so these are much better than a lot of other places offer, but sorry, no $1 oysters here. These are best of the best. Next was that duck egg yolk raviolini. Wow. I had to try it from reading the description. Duck egg, ricotta, charred lemon, house made pasta, black truffle. My first bite sent me TO THE MOON. The flavor was incredible. This was excellently executed, the quality of the ingredients sung in unison and made me do a happy dance. I had only see yolk raviolo on Master Chef, and I'm not even a fan of eggs, but I knew it was a culinary delicacy and they nailed it. Lobster pasta was the main for both me and my sister. House made lemon pasta, a good portion of lobster, veggies, cream sauce. The pasta was perfect, aldente, zesty, and exceeded my expectations, it already sounded incredible, but again, it was perfectly executed. And the portion was huge with a ton of claw meat. I'm sure I'll be digging back in those left overs shortly. More drinks and a slice of the opera cake finished the meal off perfectly. I am not big on sweets but the brûlée marshmallow took it to another level. The service is also just amazing here everytime, you can tell everyone loves being there. 10/10, every time. I come here every year on my birthday for dozens of oysters and fries and beers. It's one of my favorite places, and it should be yours too.
This seafood restaurant is easy to miss when driving down in lovely traffic on troy schdy road but it deserves a visit. If you plan on happy hour be prepared bar seats fill up the moment doors open. There are many fresh and frozen seafood options, cheeses, sauces and soups you can take away from the coolers and raw bar. The wine list is fair and I always find a bright white to pair with my oysters. This picture is from a birthday dinner September 2024. Service was wonderful, properly coursed and attentive. All of the seafood dishes we shared were fresh and we'll presented. This is one of my favs for raw oysters too.
In the eight years since my last review, Hooked Market and Kitchen has moved across the street from their original location in the Galleria 7 food court concept. Arriving shortly after 6 pm on a Saturday without a reservation, we were fortunate to be seated at the only vacant table. When we left near 7:30 pm, families were still arriving even as the restaurant closes at 8 pm. There was constant turnover of customers throughout our dinner demonstrating the popularity of Hooked. We started with a Honey Ginger Zinger mocktail ($7) for my wife and an Indian Ladder Farms Traktor Pilsner ($7) for me. The mocktail, with fresh ginger, lemon, and club soda, was a step up from a ginger ale. My pilsner from a can was fresh tasting, flavorful, and effervescent throughout. I was attracted to the small plate of Crispy Baby Octopus ($22) as a shareable appetizer. Served with a charred lemon humus, crispy chickpeas, roasted red peppers, garlic and parsley, the cute little octopuses may have been slightly overcooked as they were not as tender as I had expected. Forkfuls of a little bit of everything were, however, very flavorful with the chickpeas providing the necessary crunch. For her main course, my wife ordered the Citrus Scallops ($40). Seared, with an arugula, radicchio, orange, grapefruit, and fennel salad, and served over a grilled cannellini bean polenta, the bivalves were finished with leek oil, ramp salt, and fresh apple blossoms. The three large scallops were perfectly cooked, sweet, and tender. My selection was the Summer Halibut ($36), an 8 oz. chargrilled halibut with roasted fingerling potatoes, grilled asparagus (green, not white as stated on the menu), arugula puree, and lemon thyme compound butter. The fish was moist, flavorful, and simply delicious. The only disappointment was the green asparagus not being as young or tender as when it is in its prime season. The potatoes and puree were quite good. Service was attentive, efficient, and friendly considering how busy everybody was. We definitely are looking forward to returning to try their bowls or fish and chips.
Another incredible meal from Hooked Market & Kitchen the dessert special, Strawberry shortcake with pistachio whipped cream was so good, we suggested that they need to add it to the regular menu.
I am offically "Hooked." SO and I decided to try Hooked for lunch. Parking lot was packed, so obviously it has a lunch draw. Menu has a lot to offer. Plus, there are options for the landlubber in the group. Being so far inland, I appreciate being able to get fresh seafood. I was cautiously optimistic when I ordered the warm lobster roll. (Had read comments which were less than glowing.) Either I had caught the cook on a good day or previous patron had a gotten food on a bad day. Lobster (and a lot of it) was warm and sufficiently buttered. Roll was pleasantly toasted giving that nice crunchy bite with the lobster. Hard to mess up lobster, but I'm sure it can be done. Accompanied French fries were crispy outside and soft and tender inside. There was an option for for a different side, but I went the carb route. My meal was filling, tasty and well put together. Would I get it again? Yes. Most definitely. Are there other seafood options for next time, yes. Will I come back? Sure. SO ordered the fish tacos. Fish was blackened and properly so with appropriate spices. It was a good surprise all around. Our wait staff was attentive and quick to get us our lunch. It's a pleasant atmosphere, with a raw bar and a drink bar available. There is a freezer section available with soups and fish you can get to go.
Whenever I crave seafood and am able to splurge a little, Hooked Market & Kitchen, is where I go in the Capital region. It is a seafood market, an oyster bar, and restaurant all in one. I will usually purchase fresh seafood and cook it (or shuck it) at home. Whenever I have questions, any of the fishmongers are always willing to assist. On occasion, I do order an item off the menu. My go-to is the flash fried calamari. It seems a simple thing but it's been my experience that most don't get it right or, at least, not to my liking. Hooked does it well because they pay attention. The cut of the squid is thin, the batter covers the ingredient but isn't too thick or clumpy, and when fried just so, it lends a perfect tender-crispness to the dish. Hooked is considered one of the best seafood spots in the area and can get quite busy. By most accounts, it's worth it.
Oooh black squid seafood risotto! Yummm haven't had this yumminess since Venice, Italy! Katie said they will make it with pasta soon--so excited, although they made it w/ black pasta before which people who don't get out much got scared of haha( my paraphrasing her lol). Anyways, I loveeee the fresh oysters seafood service here. I was missing Maine but this helped my sadness lol.
